Announcing Mr. Cesar Hernandez As Principal of Kirkwood Elementary

We are excited to share that after a thoughtful hiring process that included input from our Kirkwood SIT team, staff, and community, our hiring committees have recommended Mr. Cesar Hernandez for the position of Principal of Kirkwood Elementary School.
Throughout the process, committee members appreciated Cesar’s approachable demeanor, his emphasis on culture, his personal values and upbringing, and the knowledge and experience he brings to school leadership. He also shared his interest in serving in a district where community is deeply valued and where the school is central to the heart of that community. That connection feels very much like Toppenish!
Cesar brings more than 15 years of experience in public education, including service as a paraeducator, 1st and 4th grade dual language teacher, assistant principal, and principal. He previously served as a school leader in Walla Walla, where he was raised and began his career in education. He has served three years as an assistant principal and four years as a principal, and his background in bilingual education and school leadership reflects a strong commitment to students, families, staff, and community.
Cesar earned his undergraduate degree from Washington State University and later completed his Master’s in Education and Principal Certification through Eastern Washington University.
Mr. Hernandez is excited to become part of our Toppenish leadership team for the 2026-2027 school year and plans to begin collaborating with our other principals and department directors next week as we plan for the future of Kirkwood Elementary and our school district.
Please join us in giving Mr. Hernandez a big Wildcat Welcome to the Toppenish School District!
