Toppenish Announces Augustine “Augie” Dick as Our New Yakama Language Teacher

We are proud to announce that Augustine “Augie” Dick, whose Indian name is Tɨmnuxit, has been selected as Toppenish School District’s Yakama Language I/II Teacher. She will serve in this important position while continuing to support students and families in her role as Native American Recruiter/Liaison.

Augie brings a wealth of traditional knowledge, lived cultural experience, and a deep commitment to our students and community. Her long-standing involvement with the Longhouse reflects her dedication to carrying forward Yakama language, teachings, values, and traditions. In July 2026, she earned her First Peoples’ Language, Culture and Oral Traditions Certification from the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, an accomplishment that recognizes her continued commitment to preserving, teaching, and revitalizing Indigenous language and culture.

For the past six years, Augie has served Toppenish School District as our Native American Liaison, building meaningful relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners. She has also been a dedicated presence in our Kamiakin Clubs, helping students strengthen their connections to culture, community, and one another.

As Augie begins this new role, we celebrate both her professional accomplishment and her lifelong commitment to Yakama youth and community. We are honored to have her lead this work and look forward to the many ways she will inspire students to learn, speak, value, and carry forward Ichishkíin.
