Orange Shirt Day is Wednesday, September 30, 2026! ​

Toppenish School District will observe Orange Shirt Day on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. This important day raises awareness of the devastating impact of the residential school system on Indigenous Peoples and American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities across the United States and Canada.

Much of the Indian Boarding School experience brought immense trauma in many forms. By acknowledging this history, learning together, and promoting awareness, we take steps toward healing for our Indigenous and AI/AN students, families, and community members.

How can you participate?
We invite all students, families, and staff to wear an orange t-shirt or clothing item in honor of residential school survivors and in remembrance of the children whose lives were lost.

Together, we affirm that every child matters. Remembering the history and legacy of residential schools is a vital part of the reconciliation process and aligns with the important work of the Truth and Healing Tribal Advisory Committee of Washington State.
