Every day lunch lines across our district are filled with familiar faces. Students laugh with friends, share stories about their day, and look forward to a warm meal served with a smile. For Sidalia Mendoza, one of our dedicated Kirkwood Elementary cooks, those everyday moments are the reason she shows up!

To Sidalia, supporting students means more than just serving food. It means “making sure every student feels welcome, safe and respected when they come through the lunch line.” She believes deeply that “what I do matters and our students matter as well.”

What she loves most are the simple, genuine connections, the smiles, the small talk, and the joy kids bring with them into the cafeteria each day. As she says, “I really enjoy their smiles and their small talk.” Those relationships are also why she keeps coming back year after year. Sidalia explains, “I come back because of the relationships built with students and staff.” Working in Toppenish, she says, feels different and special because “I really enjoy working at Kirkwood. I feel like we are all family.”
